“Hope arises in action”

In part one of the event hosted by The Gaia Foundation: ‘Active Hope with Joanna Macy and Chris Johnstone’, Joanna talks of the discoveries they made on their collaborative journey, co-authoring the book: Active Hope: How to Face the Mess We’re in without Going Crazy.

Elaborating on The Work the Reconnects, Joanna acknowledges the pain of the challenging times that we are living in, yet joyfully illuminates the how, by embracing ‘Active Hope’, we can all share our gifts to be part of the biggest social movement in the history of human kind: ‘The Great Turning’. This is a transition from our destructive industrial growth society to finding healthy non life-exterminating ways of living together.

“It’s time to act our age”

In the second part of the event Joanna explains that hope is not a passive state – it is not something you have, it is something you DO.

As we cannot predict the future – we cannot know the results of our actions, but what we CAN rely on in our intention: our Bodhichitta. She invites us to embrace ways to reconnect: to come from gratitude; not to be afraid of the dark (the pain of our world); to envision the world we want to see; to link arms, and lastly – to act our age! Here she takes us on a journey from our pre-human origins to our most evolved selves today.

If you have a spare eight minutes, please sit with your laptop, computer or download the audio and listen to this together or alone.
